I kept on seeing references to live view mode and finally checked it out on my T2i. Well, I can see I have been missing out on this fine feature. Nevermore! Now, my question is, can this be used successfully with night shots, specifically in shooting the Aurora Borealis?

I use LV almost exclusively at night, and rarely during the day. At night, I'm in manual focus mode, so the only way to get really good focus is to zoom in to 10X view on the LCD and focus manually from that. You just can't trust AF at night in most situations, especially with the kind of shots I take - static, generally wide angle, long exposure landscapes. Around town, in brighter light, where you might just be taking some quick snaps and barely need flash, LV won't help as much, IMO.
But for the AB, yeah, give it a shot. Another bene of LV is that it snaps the mirror up out of the way ahead of time.
I use LV all the time. This seems easier when the camera is on a tripod or monopod which for me is 99% of the time.

I use LV often. Be aware that it causes accelerated battery consumption.
Mine is articulated. I usually only use it for weird angles or night shots.
