Eye-Fi - Excellent!

After reading about the Eye-Fi card here, I got one - 4GB. I am amazed at how easy it was to set up and how well it works. With a price of $40 for a 4GB card, I won't be equipping all my cameras with these. Fortunately, they don't seem to make them in CF style, so I won't be tempted to get them for my D70's.

They don't make them in CF style, but if your camera can use Type II CF,then you can get a CF to SD adapter for about $14 that will let you use the Eye-Fi cards.

Edit;Sorry,You DIDN'T want to be tempted (woops)

@Jerry: I'd never noticed that ad before now ... and yup, there it is right above this "quick reply" form. I'll have to read some more about this, but one quick question for you as I caffeinate myself at this ungodly hour of the morning: does this card leave copies of the images on the card until you remove or reformat, or is it instant transfer and delete?

Yes.

The pictures reside both on the card and wherever you send them.

Be advised; the eyefi cards work great for a few photos...it's amazing to have your laptop up and be taking a shot and have it appear on the screen 20 seconds later....

BUT>>>>

If you shoot LARGE IMAGES and shoot a LOT of pictures at a time (such as at a function where your receiving machine is not located) then transferring a few hundred 10GB photos is EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW... it will take HOURS to transfer them.

I stopped using them because of this; it just wasn't worth it to me.

Jerry,
I also bought one the 8 Gig version pro. It works great just not for a fashion show since I take at least 4-500 photos during the show. Not something that would be downloaded easily.

You have a choice. If you are shooting a lot, and you have a computer nearby, you can have the images erased as soon as they are uploaded. This is what they call unlimited memory (or something like that), since you always have an empty card.

jerry,
the way that "unlimited memory" works is this; when the card registers that it's "X amount" full (you set the parameter) it will erase any images that have already been transferred and thus creating the "never ending card space."

I keep hoping that someone will make an equivalent in a CF.
I don't like the idea of the SD to CF adaptors because they aren't proven to work with the EyeFi with all cameras. And I've already looked on the EyeFi site and found that my camera isn't one on the list that does.
So I patiently wait in hopes of seeing some company make the same thing in a CF card.

Not something I plan on needing.
