Bad Gyms

I get to travel to various gyms all over the Detroit and Southeast Michigan area. Some of them are well maintained, some are state of the art and some are done right barns with little to no lighting. I have my 7d and 70-200mm lens. In the bad gyms, it seems like the first quarter is experimentation and the other three are the keeper quarters. Any ideas on how to handle the bad gyms? One is from the 30's and the lighting makes players look green!

Can you compensate the green with your White Balance? Maybe set it for fluorescent or something like that. Other than experimentation I don't know what to tell you. Once you figure out one gym if you go to a similar one start there and maybe you will be a little closer and can get some better shots earlier. For little light you would want to turn up the ISO some, and have a pretty wide open aperture because you need to keep the shutter speed up to stop action. Other than that I don't really know what to say, I don't own a DSLR. Maybe someone will jump in with a few more ideas.

Well then other than trying to PP it out I am not sure. If the girls call themselves the Hulks then they might like the green tint. :-)

That's right maybe it ain't broken. LOL. No, I know it's frustrating not being able to fix it I am just not expert enough to fix it, so might as well roll with it. And thank you because I try to be cute; it works out really well since everyone thinks I am only half my age anyway.

Went to two different gyms this weekend, one was well maintained, the other half the lights were burned out or broken. Got there early and experimented and I think they came out well

They look really good from here. I think you're mastering the problem quite well. I commend you for recognizing what you need to do and for making some good choices to get it done. I really like the first one with the sharp subject and the bokeh in the background. It made the subject really pop out from the background.

The first one was taken in the gym with the worst lighting I have ever seen. I spent an hour before hand learning the gym. It was weird place bare bulbs and burned out bulbs. Didn't have that chance in the second gym, was running late and it shows. And I thank you for the compliments.

I would never had guessed that the first picture was from the one with the bad lighting. Very nice job dasloaf. I think you should be able to master all gyms from here on out.

Well now that you have been to one gym like that remember you settings you had for that awesome photo and start there when you visit another gym similar to that one. Then you won't need an hour.

I started a notebook with a page for each gym and what settings used and if there is a sweet spot, where it is at!
