I really like this plant. Unlike most other Goldenrods it prefers deep woods rather than open fields It is a northern plant, ranging from Newfoundland to Ontario, rare in northern Michigan, and also found rarely at elevation in New England.

Thanks Pam. I think it is the prettiest Goldenrod. It is stalky, and has those clusters of tiny yellow flowers up the stem interspersed with those big wide dark green leaves - not at all like other Goldenrods. There is only one spot I have found it, and that is right in the middle of a campground in a busy state park.

This is so beautiful, Mike, and very different from any of the varieties we have here.

Most Goldenrods are tall and stringy with narrow leaves and with the blossoms on long arching branches. This species is really different and is not common. The first time I saw it I didn't think it was a Goldenrod. It looked like a typical woodland plant - short with broad, dark green leaves - but it had dense clusters of bright yellow blossoms up the stem.
