This is very strange. I have a Dell Studio desktop from 2009, which I use as a second computer. Every now and then, it will turn on. It could happen twice in a week, or go months between start-ups. I've posted about this before, and I'm afraid there's no good answer. It's got to be some sort of bug in the computer. Has this happened to any of you?

I have no answers about your computer, although I am interested in your answer to kubota. But, I used to have a radio that did the same thing. It could work on batteries or electricity and sometimes, when plugged into electricity, it would come on at the most inopportune times and scare the living bejesus out of me when I knew I was alone. It's a bit spooky to have inanimate things suddenly come alive, all on their lonesome.

You know, Jerry, the first thing that comes to mind, considering all the stolen data problems lately, is that you may have picked up a spyware virus that turns on your computer in order to steal your data. I would start by giving my computer a really good cleaning with good anti-spyware software. Repeat with a really good anti-virus software. See if that solves the problem.

I'm in full agreement with insman1132 as to your problem. I had a similar problem with my current computer after having the hard drive replaced. Before I could get the proper virus/spyware programs in place it seems many things jumped in. I was lucky there was so little on the new drive that I just did a full wipe of the drive and got everything installed first thing, problem solved.

Thoroughly shut down for at least a week. I've bookmarked a half dozen "solutions," and I'll go through them later.

I regularly check for viruses and malware. If Avira spots something, it pops up a window and tells me. I'll scan it again later.

I called and asked them, and I'm not important enough.

I had an expert in, and she said that all the spirits were friendly.

We live in an electronic age. I have a waste bin in my kitchen that opens automatically when I pass my hand over the senson. Last week it decided to take things in to its own hands and kept opening and shutting all by itself without anyone being near it. Somehow or other I don't think that anyone's hacked in to my waste bin.

Since I don't know what you have book marked to check later and don't want to repeat them . Here is one problem I have found from some of my computer customers . They received a power supply surge protector from their electric company which has special controlled circuits . They were having weird things happing to there computers . I found out that these types of surge protectors don't work well with computers . I had all of them switch back to a regular surge protector and all has been well . This may be your problem if your using one of these types of surge protector . Let me know . If not , could you list the other help so I don't repeat them and to see if there is one I know of they don't list . Tommy
