I was in Oshkosh for the Annual Event the year that the aircraft designed by Burt Rutan to fly around the world without refueling, landed there. The PA Announcer came on and told the crowd to look upward, and you could just make out a speck at about 20+ Thousand feet. They meandered around, slow flying, until they came in to land. The massive wing span was really some thing to see. I believe it was called the Voyager

Didn't they come out with a similar aircraft that incorporated solar panels into the wings for a type of hybrid? Maybe I saw that in Popular Science as a theoretical design.

The FAA has volumes of regs that were broken here. I wonder what, if any, sanctions have beeen taken on the pilot of the commercial bird

Scroll back to my earlier post on that topic. Definitely might be a problem there as far as the FAA.

You are correct...I believe it made its way across the US last year. It had an overnight stay at Lambert St. Louis International.

You are right! That is not something one sees everyday, but it certainly is cool. Thanks for sharing. Would have liked to seen that personally.

Just curious but with terrorist worries would the FAA even grant permission to fly that close to any commercial carrier?

Wonder if they had a welcoming committee when they landed.
