Nice article. Thank you. I just so happen to own a Kodak camera. Good thing it isn't my primary camera.
This writer does make some valid points, but its still sad to a giant of a company like Kodak, who has been such a HUGE part of the photographic community for a century going down like it is.
Can't think of one company that lives forever - when larger profit margins out weigh customer wants and needs.and developing tech market ignored. Other examples: Hudson - Studebaker - Will miss All!
:-(
Kodak just announced they'd be ceasing their digital camera and digital picture frame operations in favor of other, more profitable, operations such as printers, etc.
Kodak is beginning to remind me of the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of OZ.......I'm meltinnnnggggggg....

Hudson was killed by the UAW.
Great articles, thanks for posting. I often think what a giant Kodak could have been in the digital camera industry!

The only Kodak printer I got was wireless and couldn't get rid of it quick enough. When I quit using it for the day, it would go to sleep. Next time I was ready to use(and everytime) I had to uninstall and install again. Gave it away and told them to use plugged into computer not wireless.
Love my digtal cameras though.

Lots of old companies still going.
Interesting that there are 8 companies in Japan that were started in the years 709 to 970 and they are still going strong.

I heard the same thing on the radio today. I guess when my Kodak goes bad I will be getting a different brand again. Too bad Fuji doesn't make P&S or I would get one of those to go with my Fuji bridge camera and make a set. I think I will go Nikon, or Sony next.

I bought my wife the kodak handle years ago. They got sued by poloroid. We had to peal off the metal lable and send it in to get our money back. It was a good camera but they werent allowed to make the film for it any more. I still have it in my box of old cameras in the attic.

Fuji sure DOES make some great P&S cameras. I have enjoyed my Kodak cameras, but for the best ones feature wise I am enjoying my Olympus VG-120 and my Fuji T190. The Fuji has a 10x optical zoom and works VERY NICELY!!! They have others in a wide range of very good cameras.
He should eat his own words. He is saying - after the fact - that it is perfectly logical that a company like Kodak could not survive in the digital age. True, no company will last forever, but companies do not go under every time technology changes. He implies that it was not the fault of Kodak management but rather the changes in technology that put them into their current position. Nonsense! Management had plenty of time to see where the market was heading, but they followed their own path. Look at the post above mine - Fuji seems to have made the transition all right.
As for their cameras, Kodak made some outstanding digital cameras, but without "Nikon," "Canon," or "Sony" printed on their bodies, they were not taken seriously. I bought my wife a Kodak "Easyshare One" years ago, and it's an amazing camera. She has a Kodak printer that goes with it. It uses cartridges for 4 X 6 paper and colored film for printing. It turns out beautiful prints with no effort. I guess we'll have to stock up on supplies for it now.
Right, Kodak had plenty of time to reshearch more time to digital cameras instead of film. They were hoping film would stay popular, they just missed the boat...plain and simple!
