Locks for Critique - Color or B&W?

Photographed in Theodore Roosevelt Park located in the hamlet of Oyster Bay, New York. The first mention of Oyster Bay comes from Captain David Peterson de Vries, who in his Journal recalls how on June 4, 1639, he "came to anchor in Oyster Bay, which is a large bay which lies on the north side of the Great Island… There are fine oysters here, whence our nation has given it the name of Oyster Bay."

I would appreciate receiving critique on the photo and whether the color or the b&w rendition is more appealing. Or if neither are. Of course, additional comments or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks. 8-)

Thanks Jim. I doubt this photo is for everyone (not sure it is for me) but I did like the composition, which is why I thought it might work without the element of rust. 8-)

Hmmm, I would like the B&W pic if you would let me work on it in photoshop for a couple of minutes and repost.

Both are interesting, but the color shot shows the patina and variation of oxidation on the metal, adds a lot of excitement to the image. Easy choice.

Otherwise a well-composed crisp image. Nice!

I'm a black-and-white fan, but the color version wins here because the rust gives the photo the character it needs to convey a message.

Thanks Blurry. I have placed my B&W and your edit below. Could you tell me how you changed the photo?

Edit: Placed next to each other you can see the difference, and I like your version. It appears you adjusted curves. Yes? 8-)

Thanks Randy for the comment. I think I like Blurry's version better than mine. :D
