I see that Sigma is introducing a 18-300 lens right after the 16-300mm Tamron lens. Is there any reason to believe that this lens will have better IQ than the Tamron lens? Thanks for your input.

The Sigma is being introduced as a "Contemporary" model, part of their new Global Vision Series of lenses and they have been astonishing so far. It also offers a special "conversion" lens which will make it a 1:2 close-up lens with no degradation in MFT specs.
Its one of two Contemporary models coming next month, the other being the new 150-600mm.

MT I understand that Sigma gives a four year warranty where Tamron gives a 6 year warranty. Wouldn't this cause you to lean towards Tamron considering other things being close to equal. Just asking. I'm referring to the 150-600 lens...Rich

Absolutely not. I am very impressed with Sigmas products in recent years, and their Global Vision lenses have consistently been amongst the highest rated releases of any brand lenses. Build quality is second to none and their service has been exemplary.
Tamrons lenses have improved optically lately, but their ability to deliver what they promise has been dismal at best. The Tamrons I have bought, used and sold all have a definite plastic feel and questionable build quality.
Also, by your logic, why would anyone in their right mind buy a Canon brand lens? They only come with a one year warranty, its 4,5, or 6 years for every other manufacturer.

I have 3 Tamron Lenses, and really wanted the Tamron 150-600 SEVERAL months ago, as Summer was nearly over, I bought the Sigma 150-500mm and shot up a storm (and haven't stopped) I cannot see noticeable difference in the Sigma's 500mm shots to Tamron's 600mm (others thought the Sigma to be marginally better)

I am not sure where I stand in the difference from Tamron to Sigma. I think that should be the proper answer. It seems that preferences tend to be towards the gear you use and get used to. NOW!... I am not saying my "entry" level Canon lenses are not good, I just posted shots I took several years ago using those lenses and and older Canon camera, and they look excellent. But the new Camera (still Canon) and the new Tamron lenses are even better (sharper, better this and that) and the Sigma (with the 2xTC I just added) are taking to places I could not (and still not) see without looking through the 32x magnification the combination provides.

I am not so much interested in brand names or magazine claims and especially advertizing... In the end, it is results that matter, and I do give credence to reputation, in that regard, Canon, Sigma, Tamron, and a small list of other makers are all good choices. I made my choice based on availability. Something Tamron should consider if they truly want brand loyalty. (I understand the decisions that have to be made by manufacturers... in this case, My loyalty was dismissed to get a new slightly cooler product to market)
