Seen it promoted a few times. I like the throwback chrome body, reminds me a LOT of my old OM 1's

That does bring back some good memories. Very good looking camera. Only thing wrong. It doesn't say Nikon on it ;)

True Erv. If it said Nikon you would at least have some lens choices without adapters. Thats going to be their tough sell, no lens selection yet.

I have always wondered how they could keep going. I guess everyone has their favorite camera.

Yes, it reminds me, too, of my OM system days. For me, it's a little too late, since I traded in my whole OM system and have now gone Canon.
congratulations on your new camera.Olympus is my favorite brand.

It mounts the Micro 4/3rds lenses, to date there are 11 of them covering 9 to 600 mm. That's not too shabby and with that adapter they can accept the Zuiko Digital line of Olympus 4/3rds lenses which are second to none. I think there in pretty good shape and adding new ones all the time.

One of the gentleman in my camera club shots with an Olympus DSLR, I love his images they are to die for (yes I know it's not the camera, but I do think Olympus does not get the love it deserves when it comes to their camera line up).
I make a living with them and I love them. Their Super High Grade Lenses are simply world class. If they use that new sensor in a new Pro body I will pre order that baby (and they say its coming). Olympus makes top notch gear its just not trendy and they don't offer a new black box every fifteen days that has two more megapixels or some useless features.
It will be interesting to see if they stay in business.

I guess maybe I am reading the release wrong. It looks to me like the kit "EZ" lense is the direct mount choice, and under "lenses and accessories" it notes the availability of an adapter to mount the micro four thirds lenses. Maybe there is just some ambiguity there but it sure makes me question the use of the 4/3's lenses without an adapter. Or are there two different Olympus 4/3's mount systems?
No one in my part of the country sells Olympus but Walmart so I cannot check them out first hand.

Yes, the 4/3 system is confusing and sometimes not well explained. First, there was the "full" 4/3 mount. Then came the micro-4/3 mount. Two different mounts, and many times, it's hard to tell which mount an advertisement is talking about.

There are two mounts, the 4/3rds that fit the E Series cameras as well as some other manufacturers, and the Micro 4/3rds mounts that are used on the smaller E-Pen series cameras. This new camera used the later but there is an adapter that will allow you to use all the "full size" lenses on the Micro mounts. So there are actually a ton of lenses for this new unit right out of the gate.
What I am excited about is the inclusion of a new Sensor that gets 16+ Megapixels and allows the ISO to be pushed up to 25,600 combined with 9FPS Shooting, a new 3D Auto Focus System and full 1080P video. A few months back the Olympus Big Gun for American Marketing and Products said that Olympus would be introducing a Mirror-less Camera that would not follow the current trend (Sony NEX I figured) This seems to be that camera. He also said that they would be bringing out a replacement to the E5 for its pro users. If this technology is in this new Consumer camera I assume that the new Pro camera will have it and then some (I hope). If they do it will be a force to be reckoned with given their amazing construction and the Zuiko lenses which are truly awesome. I think Olympus is going to come back swinging and get back in the game bigtime. I am already saving my Lunch Money for the new Pro camera whatever they end up calling it...
Thanks to both of you for the explanation. Kind of reminiscent of the Canon FD/EF fiasco, but Olympus has at least allowed for an adapter.
I haven't shot Olympus since my OM-1, I traded that off on an F2 in about 1976 and have been a Nikon guy ever since.
Funny thing, I had a friend call me about an hour ago, (she shoots a Nikon D5000), and her Aunt sent her an Olympus E420 with a kit lens for Christmas and she has no use for it at all. She has asked me to sell it for her so I placed an ad on UHH Classifieds for it. She wants $350 for the whole outfit, brand new with all warranty cards, box and everything. Is that a reasonable price? Sounded good to me for a whole DSLR outfit ready to shoot.
