Government wants to charge photographers $1500

In a move that is sure to spark outrage amongst nature and wildlife photographers, the U.S. Forest Service wants photographers to pay for a $1,500 permit if they plan to shoot images on Federally-owned wilderness areas. Permits would be required even if you’re shooting images or video with a smartphone.

If you want to sound off about this controversial plan, the Forest Service is accepting public comment until November 3rd.

If one of those officer's would try to give me a ticked for photographing, the only $1000 needed, would be for his medical bills!!!

You need to do a little research on some of this crap that’s floating around on the internet & email. This one is mostly false -- http://www.wncoutdoors.info/2014/09/no-the-forest-service-is-not-planning-to-charge-you-1500-to-photograph-the-wilderness/

Yes, you are required to get the permit if you're using the land for commercial purposes and causing a burden on the resources of the forestry services or your activities will reduce the availability of forestry services resources to other people, such as a photoshoot, filming a movie, getting access to normally off-limits areas that will require forestry employee to leave their normal duties. Those employees' time at work is paid for by the taxpayers and it is only fair if you're using those resources in a way that reduces their effectiveness you pay for that resources.

Everything you see on the Internet isn't always accurate and all those junk emails you get from a variety of sources are often in error.

Follow the link to the OFFICIAL US FOREST SERVICE SITE requesting comments. It does say that non-commercial photography may be acceptable.

Also, this applies only to Federally-owned wilderness areas, for which an access pass is already required (just for hiking).

Per http://federalregister.gov/a/2014-21093 : "Specifically, this policy provides the criteria used to evaluate request for special use permits related to still photography and commercial filming in Congressionally designated wilderness areas."

What is a wilderness area?: “an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.” per http://wilderness.nps.gov/faqnew.cfm

Unless the fee is 'trickled down', they won't be getting any money from me. :)

I'm sorry I/We own it not the Federal (IDIOTS) Government.
Since when has it not been WE THE PEOPLE. This country that I loved is going the wrong way.

The taxes since I was 16 that I have paid until I retired at 63 has paid at the highest rate for 32 years. Something is very wrong .

Too many greedy, selfish people that are both in and out of government.
Smart and idiots, Christians and crooks, white, black, brown, and yellow.

My comment:

"Violation of free speech and expression. The people have a right to see their land in public postings. Government greed is unconscionable already. Shameful money grabbing.
This is the peoples land. Photography and Video will not harm the land. I guess you don't want people to see the abuses of protected industry such as clear cutting beyond visual corridors.
This is a politically self serving abomination and will serve to stifle free expression."

Many of these so called wilderness lands are given over to oil exploration such as the Tongas forrest. I want to see the pictures of this abuse.
