I was at a mountain lake in a nearby county park looking for Bald Eagles to take pics of when I spotted this critter crawling along. I never knew much about this caterpillar until I looked it up on the internet.

They begin appearing at end of summer. Host plants include ashes, elms, hickories, maples, oaks, and walnuts, but will usually accept most any shrub or tree.

WARNING: Some people may be allergic to the hairs of this caterpillar. Be especially careful with children handling this caterpillar and then touching their eyes before washing hands.

More info here and here.

I was shooting HH using my Canon EOS 50D w/EF 70-200 f2.8L IS USM + EF 1.4x II TC @ 240mm; f5; Tv @ 1/1250"; AUTO ISO (200); AI SERVO AF. PP w/PsE8. Exif intact.

Enjoy these. Comments welcome.

Very nice shots. I guess I'll have to look it up to see what the adult looks like.
