I finally got my lens this afternoon. I ordered it on June 9th from B&H. I found a couple of birds to shoot to try it out. Hand held. It is pretty heavy but I am sure I will get used to it.

Image #1 & #2 appear to be a bit fore-focused. The lead-in stem with dried leaf is sharper than bird's eye.

Yes, I noticed that, I will be working on the focus. Thanks for looking.

Image #4 appears to reveal a bit of camera movement. The eyes are not sharp.
Your shutter duration should always be shorter than the lens focal length.

Image #5 is better, as the eyes are sharp. Did you use a tripod?

No I didn't use my tripod. Will give that a try tomorrow. Thanks.

Tripod allows long shutter durations, such as 1/200-sec, but 600-mm hand-held means a shutter duration of 1/600-sec or shorter.

It will also help to do a focus cal with your camera body - if that is possible. A tripod is OK, but a monopod is much quicker and more mobile .....and will allow concentration ( mental focus) on the subject.

Funny you should mention monopod, my husband and I were talking about that today. It is on my list along with a back pack carry case. Thanks for your input, appreciate it.

Thank you. I got my camera about a year ago, so am fairly new to it as well. I have a tripod and want to get a monopod in the near future. Have fun and keep shooting.

Great start, Myrna! I received my 150-600 the end of last week and I hope to put it to work tomorrow. I think I'll bring my tripod along just in case. It's always nice to learn things from others on this forum.
