Has anyone used the Sony Repair Center in Texas? I just mailed my Sony DSC-HX50V to them for repair. It will not allow horizontal panning in the high resolution panorama mode. Spent 45 minutes on the phone with tech support and they were unable to solve problem.

I've had success with them 3 times with different cameras and been pleased.

The repair center in Texas is a warehouse full of technicians, Most of them skilled enough to replace the parts necessary to get your camera up and running again.

On a personal favorite HX9V, after heavy use, it developed a zoom issue that was quickly fixed. My RX100 got a dust spot on the sensor and it took two tries to get it removed. Note that both are pocket sized cameras that get more use and abuse than any other cameras I've ever owned.

Very pleased with my one encounter. They fixed the problem I caused with no charge, updated my firmware, and didn't charge me return shipping.

And they were fast!

Amen to that! I had a problem (of my own making). In a clumsy attempt at cleaning the mirror of my A-77, I damaged it. Also, it was a 'grey-market' camera. I made the service center aware of both facts at the beginning of the conversation. I was told that it would cost around$100 to repair it. I sent it via UPS on a Wednesday, and on Saturday I received an e-mail stating that they had received it. The following Tuesday I received notice that my camera was repaired and would be shipped the next day. I called them and asked what the cost was, and I was told there was NO CHARGE! I then asked them what had been done and
was informed that they had replaced the mirror and made sure that all of the functions of the camera were working properly. I received the camera the following Saturday-a little more than a week after I sent it in! Needless to say, I'm pleased!

Is that an old repair center? They seem to use a place in CT now... and it's pricey to get the cameras serviced... starting at over $300...
