Went out the door and this one was just below the door bell button.

Oly E-510 with Raynox 250. First two with the 14-42 and the last with 40-150 kit lens. Hand held.

Yikes - that thing needs to shave its legs. Nice and sharp.
What kind of spider is it?

Completely harmless mature female Black & Yellow Orbweaver spider (Argiope aurantia).
Keeps down the populations of flies, mosquitoes, moths, grasshoppers, etc.

Wow those are some great captures. Beautifully done. We were on our way to Cape Cod recently and I found one of those at one of the stops along I495. I put some pictures up as I also would love to know what these guys are. Mine are not as good as yours so please go easy on me.
Bill

I was just informed that putting up pictures without permission is against the rules. I apologize for the mistake and took mine down. Bill

Saw your pictures. Very interesting. Looks like she has created an egg sack or food storage.

Spiders give me a chill, well, shudder, but I must say these are very good shots, GHS58!
