I enjoy viewing and photographing lighthouses. Below is one of my favorites in southern Maine. Lighthouses, to me, lend themselves to straight photography, post production (like mine) and whatever. Let me HONESTLY know what you think of this sample. Share your's too.

I like the composition of this shot.....I just wish it was brighter and the colors stood out more.

Yes, very nice composition. The sky, however, is washed out. It would be nice to see those clouds and there are white streaks near the top of the lighthouse. Not sure what PP you did, but his photo might look nice with some HDR effect. 8-)

Thank you Sarge. Now that you mention it, I see the pink as well. That was not purposely tinted. I will definitely remove it.

The photo does need to lightened overall.

Thank you Bmac. When I shot this in the Summer '09, I was not aware of the HDR process. It does beg for HDR.

Thank you photophly for your suggestions. The colors were purposely muted. However, the entire shot should be lightened I use a lap top and unfortunately I can't always tell if the lid/screen is opened to the appropriate angle, when I hit "SAVE AS". That would be another good topic.

Nice shot but the sky is washed out of course.

You CAN save it without HDR.

Just open up the JPG in Adobe camera raw by using the "open as" command and lowering the exposure and upping the saturation. That should help the sky a lot.

Then save A COPY of that file.

then open the original the same way but this time just open as is as the rocks and stuff are exposed fine.

Then merge the two in whatever PP program you have....photoshop, PSE, PSP....whatever. That will get you a good looking sky with good looking foreground.

Would you like me to give it a shot to see if it can be done?

I'm afraid the photo is a total bust! Sorry.
There is simply no detail on it. it's near posterization.
The colors are muddy.
HDR will only exasperate the problem, yielding a garish effect.

(Did you find the CPL filter I lost there?)

Oh...I assumed that the posterization was intentional and that there was an original around that was good?

is that not the case?

From 1 Mainiac to another, I like your spoof. You have 4 lighthouses in 1 shot. LOL

Thank you for your honesty. This was not the original shot but my artistic interpretation.

P.S. I didn't find your CPL, but thank you for leaving your Hasselblad with 150 mm F1.8 lens. It takes great shots. LOL.

Thank you for your input. I would be pleased to have you tackle this. This was not the original shot I posted. The original is quite bright. But, please give it a go if you have time. Ray
