I have the 7D. It is a great camera and you'll enjoy it. Depending on the type of photography you plan to do, the f/3.5 lens might be a bit restrictive. From your previous posts I assume you shoot mainly daytime/landscape/long-distance photos so it may not really be that much of a factor.
Dave Busch's book on the 7D (see Amazon) is excellent for figuring out all of the camera's capabilities. So is his field guide on then 7D.

What do you mostly shoot?

The 7D with it's very fast AF and frame advance is fantastic for sports and wildlife.
It really is an excellent all around camera but truly excells at bird and other wildlife photography.
I bought a 7D the first week it came out in Oct. 2009 and some months later I bought a second body. That's how much I like this camera.

I upgraded from Canon XSi to the 7D a few months a go and really like it. It does have a learning curve. As has a lot of bells and whistles. have found it to be easier to use and maneuver thru the different setting once you get the feel. It has so many functions that I don't think anyone would ever use them all. I think it is a great camera. Think you will find that you will need other lens . Boys and their toys

Swap Gator,

I like your Avatar, being from SW Florida, a very familiar sight. I mostly shoot wildlife, lots to choose from here locally. I currently own an Olympus e-520, and looking to upgrade, and after my research the Canon 7D seems to be the best fit for me. Do you own or use the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS Lens?

I believe you are on the right track considering a 7D, as it would be an excellent choice for wildlife.

I don't not own and have never used that 28-300 lens.
However if I were making a decision for myself right now I would go for the 100-400 (if you require a zoom) or a 300 f4 and possibly add a 1.4 extender (which is what I use) for wildlife over that 28-300.
I get nervous about lenses that try to do too much.
With the extra money I would then buy a seperate lens for wide angle or mid range use.
An excellent lens is the 24-105 f4 for example.
Couple that with a 300 f4 and possibly a 1.4 extender and you have most all of your bases covered.

I also just bought a 7d off of e-bay and I love it. So far I have taken out a number of times and the images are very sharp. I too bought the battery grip for the ease of use and the extra battery life. I primarily use it with the 100-400 lens for wildlife but have the 70-200 as well. Love both of them, tack sharp and quick focus. I think you will get the most for your money out of that camera.

Excellent decision gwong1. I've had my 7D for almost a month and loved every minute. A good person on UHH posted this link for me when I mentioned my upgrade and it's been very useful to me. I hope you enjoy it as well.

It seems to be speculation. most experts agree that the 7d markii as they call it is a figment of the imagination. Mostly talk but no make-over for the camera in the near future. More than likely the camera will be APS-C, even though there have been murmurs about it being APS-H. Only time will tell whether the rumors are real.

Agree, with a great camera like that you need a couple of "L" lenses.
