I took this shot up through the trees of the Milky Way galaxy, there was a fairly small opening through the trees where I shot. The light on the trees was from other campers campfires. I did increase Vibrance and saturation a little in Photoshop just to add interest and a little more color to the scene.

WHERE did all those stars come from? I am sure there are nowhere near that many around here! ;)

Love the night shots!

It really helps to get way up high in the mountains where the air is clear and there is no light pollution from a city.

Nikon D800E, Sigma 15-30mm lens at 15mm, ISO 6400, F4.5, 1/30sec shutter. All Exif data should be intact on the download.

Oh good call, didn't even think of that. Nice, thank you!

How do you like that sigma 15-30? I heard rumors about a new similar lens from either sigma or tokina..

I actually like the lens a lot myself, others don't, but it sure does a good job for me and they are available pretty cheap!
Either Tamron or Tokina has announced they are making one soon, I don't remember which at the moment.

Granted its old, but so is the lens, here is Thom Hogans review of it when it first came out:
