When I open a folder with photo files, I can see the jpg thumbnails, but not the psd. Is this just the way it is, or is there a way to see psd thumbnails?

Jerry, I have the same issue with Windows XP and now 7. I now use a free organizer/editor called Faststone (www.faststone.org), FastStone Image Viewer 4.6 Freeware (Last Update: 2011-06-29), which allows me to see the PSD files as a thumbnail.
You can review, organize, and edit your photos as well. Recommended by my local camera club. I hope this helps.

I don't think you can do this without installing another program because it has to do with a codec for the file for Windows XP theres a Program called ThumbView for all NT systems there is FastPictureViewer Codec Pack. I don't rember what program let me have the thumbnails of both these files but I had thumbnails of both these types of files before I installed FastPictureViewer Codec Pack on my Windows 7 computer so I would have thumbnails of Raw files.
