Am considering purchase of subject DSLR to help me enjoy my phototaking. Would like to read any reviews and/or comments you and others have before taking any action.

Thank you,
Yardman

This is NOT a dSLR, but simply the latest "Bridge" camera coming from Canon. Won't actuall be released until sometime later next week I believe. It will take some time to find reviews based on actual 'user' comments. I am also looking forward to seeing 'real world' reviews of it.

Yardman, many of us on UHH have the SX50. It does take some getting used to if you haven't used a bridge camera with such a long reach. And now this newest version will have an even longer lens!

What camera/s are you familiar with?

My field of cameras ranges from Nikon 6006 to Nikon L110(which has lost the flash) to current Canon Powershot SX170 IS. Really like the L110, but the SX170 is doing a very good job. Seems like the SX60 HS would put me back into creative photography. I really like macros and pay very special attention to composition to surround my subjects.

The 60 will be similar to the 170, just more reach, and a bit bigger camera physically. And, hopefully, a bit better quality image, though I've seen some very nice pics from my neighbor's 170, considering its price.

Thanks Linda. Appreciate the comparison between 170 IS and SX60. Gives me a good idea of field I'm in. Will look forward to initial reviews.

Best regards,
Yardman

Thanks for correcting me, Wahawk. I'm pretty new to the "Bridge" camera generation.

@Yardman: At Youtube, there is a review of Canon SX60Hs. Problem is, it is in German language, ha, ha, ha!
But you will see firsthand how the new camera looks like and the long zoom.

Reviewing the posts on UHH regarding the SX50 will give you a good starting point for a "review" of the SX60 since it is a direct update for the SX50. Click on "Search" at the top of the page and enter "SX50" for the search criteria. You will find many good examples of what can be done with these cameras. I am looking forward to the expanded wide angle part of the SX60 plus the new processor and more megapixels.

If you are into creative photography, you might be better off with an entry DSLR or mirrorless camera than the SX60. You need image quality more than that long zoom for your purposes. You can go either route for the same, or slightly less money than that SX60 will cost

@yardman: Heard the price of the Canon SX60 HS will be around $549.00. Compare that price to the entry level DSLR that Shutterbugsailer suggested and decide which one you want to get.
Also, consider the fact that SX60 has a fixed lens with 65x reach that is capable of doing almost everything while the entry level DSLR only comes with a basic lens. It is a camera with interchangeable lenses. Which means you have to invest in a lot of lenses in order to meet your every needs; and that will cost you an arm and a leg.

When comparing the prices, unless you are intending to use your shots professionally and have DEEP pockets, consider the cost of the body plus all the lenses needed to cover the 20mm to 1300mm range and then see which you prefer!!!
