I used an old old 35-105 "kit" lens on my Canon 50D for the first time at a Portrait workshop. All the images were soft. My film images never showed any lack of sharpness while using this lens Back In The Day. I suspect it might need some focus (point or plane?))tune up that I've read about here.
This is a vocabulary request so I know what to search for for a procedure to get this lens focusing right.
What's it Called? And any tips?
Thanks,
C

Nikon calls it Auto Focus Fine Tune. Hopefully, it is described in you owner's manual. Good luck. :)
Thanks, RWR. I couldn't identify the topic looking in the usual places in the manual. So that's why I'm needing help with the vocabulary.

I know what you mean. One wonders where they find the people who write the manuals. If you can download a PDF manual, you might be able to find it by doing a search for Focus Tune or some such keyword. I'm not familiar with your camera or lens, but someone who is may reply with the answer.
google "canon digital learning center" and go to the autofocus section ... for some reason I cannot make a link .....
Thanks. I can't conjure up the term to look it up successfully so far.
More research shows that it is largely operator error, duuhhh!!, and I turned off the illuminated AF point in the viewfinder so I wasn't focusing on the eyes like I wanted to or thought I did.
But with the ability to correctly focus each lens, it is a worthwhile project!
