"Shooting" is a common photographic term, but I'm wondering if using that word has caused problems for any of you.

"I'm going out later to see if I can shoot some dolphins." "I'd like to shoot some of those kids in the playground, but their parents might object."

You mean the camera that fires bullets?

One job I would not want is being security for a famous person - too many ways to get to people today.

It is all in the context! When I'm speaking with photographers they understand exactly to what I am referring. At the gun range it is an entirely different interpretation.
Although, in the words of somebody famous--I forget who--"some people just need shooting." I don't think he meant with a camera.

Sometimes shooting people with Nikon or Canon can have as much impact as shooting with Colt or Winchester. Just read the tabloids. And this subject has the potential for danger.

Kimber .45--is that film, digital, or lead? Might depend on the optics used. lol
The other night I "flashed the moon." Remember this a photography form and that should be the context. lol
Just sharing a little humor. Although, I did ask myself what happen if I flashed the moon, then I thought in polite company I should state that differently.

Back in the day I made my living in photography for many years. Then I quit that and sold guns for about 15yrs. Now I'm retired and enjoy playing pool several nights a week.
They're ALL shooting sports!

I was asked why I was going to Maine and said "To shoot some moose." The person then ask me how many and I replied "Every one I can find." When the look of horror came over her face I realised what she thought I meant. I then quickly added "With a camera!"

When I got out of the service I was a body guard for 4 years. A very nerve racking job. I made it for 4 years and had to get a different job. I don't have much patience with stupid. And did you know there is only one way to fix it. ; Shooting with my Nikon is way more relaxing! :)
