I went ahead and got PS CC and Lightroom. Haven't hacked my way through LR yet. I like the capability of PS and it's never let me down.
I intend on getting back into the freelance game soon, so it will get a work out.
Thanks for your opinions!
I have Lightroom 4 use it for 98% of my processing and I use the OnOne Photo Suite software for layers & masking..just cannot afford Photoshop CS.

There is potential for confusion here.
"Photoshop CS" is an out of date product and "discontinued" at stores selling current inventory. It was expensive. If you find it on ebay, at Best Buy or somewhere else, it is "dead inventory". The last version was 6.
Photoshop is now rented from Adobe directly for download and installation on your computer. It is referred to as Photoshop CC 2014 and comes in various price packages. The good deal for photographers is Photoshop CC and Lightroom together for $9.99 a month. For $50 you can rent all the tools that graphic artists, web designers and videographers use.
Before the budget minded get in a kerfuffle, $10 will get you two rolls of undeveloped film, if you know what that is. Or, maybe 40 miles of driving. It is frequently the price of lunch in restaurants where you might tip.
In other words, buy getting out of the retail distribution system, avoiding packaging and ending update cycle costs, Adobe is offering the two tools photographers want and use most for rock bottom prices.

Thank you for this, Yes I have heard of Photoshop CC but did not know Suite 6 was discontinued. The way I understand this is Photoshop CC offers photography tools for photographers, and that includes PS and LR for $9.99 a mo..this is a good deal, good enough for me to consider. This was helpful, so thanks again.

I'm on the border, trying to decide if I want to pursue photography professionally. It's always been a personal passion. I've worked in photoshop a tad before and recently had a free trial of lightroom, however I'm still not versed enough to know the biggest difference and what works best for what photography. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
Go with the Photoshop CC package subscription at Adobe so you get Photoshop AND Lightroom for $9.99 a month. They're updated free regularly so you don't have to do any of that. It's called their Creative Cloud system but you can use it for almost a month without being online before they wonder where you went. My system is online all the time so I don't worry about that. You can't beat the price and you get both that you're considering. Personally, I haven't used Lightroom once since I signed up. With Bridge, ACR, and Photoshop bundled together, the bundle does everything Lightroom does and does it better.
