Odd color cast on blue

Note the odd coloration of the Blue Heron. Is this a result of incorrect white balance?

I have no idea what that is.

I can't answer intelligently exactly what Auto WB is on the camera. The bird blue heron is in the shade. The other bird is in sunshine (hazy, humid day).

How are the other colors in the 'blue bird' pic? Are they 'off,' too?

They look OK to me, but - Captain Obvious speaking - I wasn't there.

Male & female birds? Not the same bird in both pix?

I'm really clueless why only the bird would have a color cast.

If there is some area in the pic that is supposed to be white, you should be able to use that area to color correct the pic in most any PP program.

Offhand, without knowing what your eyeball saw, it looks to me to be somewhat overexposed which brightened up the blue heron. An image search came up with these:

After finding the above images I looked at your camera settings and found that your exposure and white balance were set to Auto and MeteringMode was Center weighted average. Basically, by center-weighted metering in the shade your camera based the exposure on the center being 18% gray. Although you are not really dealing with blown out highlights this exposure adjustment discussion may help more than my previous sentence: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-244590-1.html Had you not been shooting RAW I suspect you would have seen definite blown out areas.

The colors are still there, but need a little PP to get them out. (Judging from the linked photos above, the blues on the back and wings probably needs a little more graying and desaturation - but only you know what the bluegrays should look like).

BTW, it's a very nice image - hope you don't mind me working with it a little. (I wonder what kind of egg cases those are on the sticks above his beak.)

Thank you. Your comments are much appreciated. As to the eggs, they were everywhere on everything that didn't move. I have no idea what they were and would like to know.

The egg cases are Apple Snails, favorite food of the limpkin.
