I am hoping to significantly reduce the noise in this shot. It was shot as a JPEG and I have Photoshop and Lightroom with which to do PP.

Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

If you don't mind, I did a little bit in PhotoShop, I post it with your permission. Note you also had some dust spots on your lens.

What you can do, is select the bird and the moon then invert your selection, then just air brush the sky with the same blue. Next I would invert the selection again, using the smug tool at about 35 percent, Using a brush, about the size of the moon, Place the circle on the moon. Now just give it a little wiggle, and return to the spot you started at. Not much but this will blend the snow into the overall picture of the moon. Do not use a heavy hand. Good Luck Bill

Thank you Bill for the direction. Please feel free to post the shot with the work you have done to it. I would love to see it.

The moon can still use some work, but this should help you in one direction. There are several ways to go about things in PS. This is just one way.

Thank you. How would you go about not losing the color of the vultures head?

I actually did nothing to his head since was isolated when selected the sky, but if you want to bring it up to a brighter color, just zoom in it and select his head. then I would go to:

Image
Adjustment
Hue/Saturation

And you can more or less do what you wish from there.

Did this just using the Adjustments brush in LR. Selected the background (i.e. everything except the vulture and the moon) and softened with de-noise and putting Clarity and Sharpen both to the left. Selected the moon and increased contrast, desaturated a little and de-noised. Tweaked brightness levels.

The download came with some sharpening which I reversed because it was considerably aggravating the noise in the background.

I also edited in Elements to introduce more dramatic positioning and giving the vulture a more dynamic tilt (the moon's a bit more upright as well).

Used Topaz Dnoise which I know is not on your list, then did some selections and level adjustments

Remove noise with Noiseware Community. Added two friends and darkened blue.

You may need to clean your lens or your sensor. I can see a couple of dots in the picture.
