Read the DP review of the camera and the filter removal.

Almost all digital cameras employ an optical low-pass filter over their sensors to slightly blur the image at a pixel level in order to avoid moiré patterning. This gives more usable images for general photography (moiré is annoying and can be time-consuming to correct) but comes at the expense of a slight decrease in critical sharpness. Removing the effect of this filter, as Nikon has done in the D800E, should result in higher resolution. Although the difference might not be critical to the average enthusiast, it could be of major importance to studio and landscape professionals (many of whom will be used to working with medium format cameras, which likewise don't use OLPFs).

I did check it out, sort of. I figure if I don't understand the need for (or lack thereof) an anti-aliasing filter, I won't know or notice the difference. I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to tech issues. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

I compose an image in my mind, try to set the correct exposure, re-compose, set the polarization, check the exposure and push the button. If I can get those right, I'm happier than a pig in poop. Anything more and I'm fearful of becoming orgasmic. LOL.

Feel free to explain why I need the anti-aliasing filter removed for better images of the kind I make. Maybe I can still change my order.

+30 MP = overkill. And how many still photographers ever use video capability? (Did use it once to pre-shoot a remake of American Girl in Italy, but stopped when the effect was always better in still.) The D7000 gave me all I ever wanted (minus video; will never use it). Appreciate the post on the D800, but optics are where the rubber meets the road. Believe that most want the best glass they can afford. On the pre-order, is anyone close to the $3,300 suggested list?

I'm just dying to shoot FF. The DX format just doesn't cut it for wide angles. And the 33 MP will be excellent for larger enlargements. The D300 maxxed out my budget a few years ago. But I snapped and pre-ordered the D800. After the dust settles in the household, I hope to put an IR B&W sensor in my D300. I could really put both to work during my upcoming photo expedition to SW Utah slot canyons and hoodoos, as well as Death Valley desert.

I never inferred that you needed a camera without a anti-aliasing filter.

What the not having the filter would do, as I understand it (and I could possibly be wrong too), you just have more information in the picture, the edges would look sharper when zoomed to max.
