We are planning a day trip to Charleston,SC. Know some places but would love input from those familiar with historical downtown site but also any thing else of interest.

Thanks in advance

Just walk around old town - the market, the horse carriages, the old house architecture, lots of churches & cemeteries - there is something just about every block.

Maybe this will give you some ideas:

You're right, every place has a photographic opportunity. But, I would also recommend going to the Magnolia Plantation. I have been there quite a few times and that place is a photographer's dream. Do the Swamp Walk there and be ready for some amazing shots!! Have fun and I'm jealous!!

Again - Thanks so much. I love the city and being in Hilton Head 2 hours away - I am ashamed to say I've done little photography there.

Go there to see my grand-son and son!!

If any of the photographers are interested in wildlife, plan another trip about an hour and a half farther north to Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet right on Rt. 17.

Feel free to check my wildlife photo blog for the types of wildlife you might see at HBSP. I update it daily with current stuff.

I went to three plantations outside Charleston - Magnolia, Drayton, and Middleton. They are all fantastic photo opportunities:

It's worth a don rive to head a little west and visit Cypress Gardens in Monck's Corner. Since you are from Hilton Head, you likely have lots of water birds and beach shots, so the Old Town is charming. In Mt. Pleasant there is the York aircraft carrier and other battle-rattle shots to be had. Photo from CG.
