He is Edward "Ed" Mezvinsky, born January 17, 1937.

Then youll probably say, Who is Ed Mezvinsky?

Well, he is a former Democrat congressman who represented Iowa's 1st congressional district in the United States House of Representatives for two terms, from 1973 to 1977.

He sat on the House Judiciary Committee that decided the fate of Richard Nixon.

He was outspoken saying that Nixon was a crook and a disgrace to politics and the nation and should be impeached.

He and the Clintons were friends and very politically intertwined for many years.

Ed Mezvinsky had an affair with NBC News reporter Marjorie Sue Margolies and later married her after his wife divorced him.

In 1993, Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, then a freshman Democrat in Congress, cast the deciding v**e that got President Bill Clintons controversial tax package through the House of Representatives.

In March 2001, Mezvinsky was indicted and later pleaded guilty to 31 of 69 counts of bank fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud.

Ed Mezvinsky embezzled more than $10 million dollars from people via both a Ponzi scheme and the notorious Nigerian e-mail s**ms.

He was found guilty and sentenced to 80 months in federal prison.

After serving less than five years in federal prison, he was released in April 2008 and remains on federal probation.

To this day, he still owes $9.4 million in restitution to his victims.

About now you are saying, So what!

Ed Mezvinsky is Chelsea Clinton's father-in law.

Now Marc Mezvinsky and Chelsea are in their early thirties and purchased a 10.5 million dollar NYC apartment.

Has anyone heard mention of any of this in any of the media?

If this guy was Jenna or Barbara Bush's, or better yet, Sarah Palin's daughter's father-in- law, the news would be an everyday headline and every detail would be reported over and over.

And yet liberals say there are no double standards in political reporting.

And people are already talking about Hillary as our next President!

Lying and corruption seem to make Democrat candidates more popular.

I gather the OP is living in fear and I can totally see why. If Hillary Clinton should decide to run for president, we should consider the criminal acts of her daughter's father-in-law? Right? Could we be stretching a little? smh

He [Ed Mezvinsky] sat on the House Judiciary Committee that decided the fate of Richard Nixon.

[Good for him...]

He was outspoken saying that Nixon was a crook and a disgrace to politics and the nation and should be impeached.

[Agree with him, 100%.]

He and the Clintons were friends and very politically intertwined for many years.

[Is that a crime???]

Ed Mezvinsky had an affair with NBC News reporter Marjorie Sue Margolies and later married her after his wife divorced him.

[Who cares? I hope they were very happy.]

In 1993, Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, then a freshman Democrat in Congress, cast the deciding v**e that got President Bill Clintons controversial tax package through the House of Representatives.

[So???? I think that's great; Clinton's agenda would have paid off the national debt in ten years--until the Republicans were elected.]

In March 2001, Mezvinsky was indicted and later pleaded guilty to 31 of 69 counts of bank fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud.

[Great news!]

Ed Mezvinsky embezzled more than $10 million dollars from people via both a Ponzi scheme and the notorious Nigerian e-mail s**ms.

[Bad stuff, for sure!]

He was found guilty and sentenced to 80 months in federal prison.

[He could rot there, for all I care.]

After serving less than five years in federal prison, he was released in April 2008 and remains on federal probation.

[For every day you're a good boy, your term is reduced a day; seems like typical jail term, perhaps a little harsh as he seemed to serve more than half his term; nothing new here.]

To this day, he still owes $9.4 million in restitution to his victims.

[Bad stuff, indeed! I assume the court is hounding him for the money.]

About now you are saying, So what!

[About now, I'm saying "So What?"]

Ed Mezvinsky is Chelsea Clinton's father-in law.

[Is that a crime?]

Now Marc Mezvinsky and Chelsea are in their early thirties and purchased a 10.5 million dollar NYC apartment.

[Good for them; what is your point?]

Has anyone heard mention of any of this in any of the media?

[Certainly have not; any reason I should?]

If this guy was Jenna or Barbara Bush's, or better yet, Sarah Palin's daughter's father-in- law, the news would be an everyday headline and every detail would be reported over and over.

[Absolutely! Every illegal deed might be revisited, for sure, though not so gleefully as Republicans would be. What illegal deed do you think might come up?]

And yet liberals say there are no double standards in political reporting.

[The double standard is, Liberals don't go crazy over B******i, IRS, etc.]

And people are already talking about Hillary as our next President!

[Talking about it, and looking forward to it! Fer sure!]

Lying and corruption seem to make Democrat candidates more popular.

[Which Democrat candidate are you pointing to, and what is your evidence?

Don't get what you're trying to say about whom, and why....]

SNOPES ARTICLE:
Example: [Collected via e-mail, August 2010]

Before I came to Cincinnati, I was a news reporter at WOC in Davenport Iowa. I covered a lot of city council and a lot of political stuff. One of the guys I covered was Ed Mezvinsky, who was the Congressman from Iowa's first district. Seemed like a pretty nice guy, but when he ditched his wife for a New York reporter, the Iowa v**ers ditched him. My most vivid memory is that he sat on the House Judiciary Committee that was deciding the fate of President Nixon. Anyway, years later, "Fast Eddie" got caught with his hand in the till. He c***ted investors out of more than $10 million dollars. He went to prison for several years. This weekend, his son married Chelsea Clinton.

How about that?

Origins: On 31 July 2010, 30-year-old Chelsea Clinton, who had recently received a master's degree from Columbia University's Joseph L. Mailman School of Public Health, married 32-year-old Marc Mezvinsky, an investment banker. These nuptials were no ordinary occasion, however: the event was widely covered by U.S. and international news media because the bride's parents were two of the most prominent U.S. politicians of recent decades: former president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Less known to the general public was the fact that both of the g***m's parents were also politicians at the federal level: former congressman Edward Mezvinsky of Iowa and former congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy of Pennsylvania.

As the Houston Chronicle noted, the lives of the Clinton and Mezvinsky parents were intertwined, both personally and politically, long before the Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky announced their engagement in November 2009 — and some of those links were decidedly controversial:
The Clintons and Mezvinskys have long been political allies and friends.

In 1993, Margolies-Mezvinsky, then a freshman Democrat, cast the v**e that got President Bill Clinton's controversial tax package through the House of Representatives.

"She earned an honored place in history, with a v**e she shouldn't have had to cast," Bill Clinton wrote in "My Life," his 2004 memoir.

On a darker note, federal prosecutors said Ed Mezvinsky habitually dropped the Clintons' names and boasted of their friendship during the 1990s as he defrauded friends, family members and institutions out of more than $10 million.

Ed Mezvinsky was sentenced in 2003 to serve 80 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a massive fraud that prosecutors said amounted to a Ponzi scheme. He was released from custody in April 2008, but remains under federal probation supervision.

Both he and his wife were forced into bankruptcy, and they quietly divorced in 2007, court records show.

Margolies-Mezvinsky was not implicated in any wrongdoing, but the scandal effectively ended her political ambitions. She founded and remains at the helm of Women's Campaign International, a nonprofit dedicated to the political empowerment of women.
According to ABC News, Mezvinsky's downfall stemmed from an activity that has long been the subject of one of this site's most frequently-accessed articles, the ubiquitous Nigerian s**m (also known as 419 fraud):
Despite being released in April 2008 after serving five years in prison, Mezvinsky remains on federal probation and still owes almost $9.4 million in restitution to his victims.

An ABC News investigation revealed that Mezvinsky, a former Democratic Congressman from Iowa, had been caught up in a series of Nigerian e-mail s**ms and began to steal from people to further his schemes.

"He was always looking for the home run. He was always trying to find the business deal that would make him as wealthy as all the people in his social circle," said federal prosecutor Bob Zauzmer. According to Zauzmer, Mezvinsky, who is now 72, will be on supervised release, the federal version of probation, until 2011.
Edward Mezvinsky was elected to Congress as an Iowa representative in 1972, and he won a re-e******n campaign in 1974 before losing a bid for a third term in 1976. It is true that during his first term in Congress, Mezvinsky was a member of the House Judiciary Committee and v**ed for the impeachment of President Richard Nixon. However, the statement that "when he ditched his wife for a New York reporter, the Iowa v**ers ditched him" is a bit problematic to verify as a cause-and-effect event. Mezvinsky separated from Myra Schulman, his wife of ten years, six months into his first term in Congress, yet a year and a half later he was successful in securing re-e******n to his House seat. (The couple divorced immediately after that 1974 e******n.) Mezvinsky married Marjorie Sue Margolies, then a reporter with NBC News in New York, in October 1975.

In March 2013, the New York Post reported that Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky were purchasing a $10.5 million, 5,000-square-foot apartment across the street from New York City's Madison Square Park.

I'm afraid I find you dishonest, sir, as I often do with the Tea Party. As you can see above, the issues were well covered in the press.

I think my previous post addresses everything but your irresponsibility.

You demonstrated that yourself.
