New images of Samsung NX1

NewCamera has posted images of the upcoming Samsung NX1. If I were Canon and Nikon, I would be paying close attention to this Korean company. They have a habit of not giving up until the prize is presented. Just look at Hyundai and Kia cars. From nowhere to the top of the quality ratings.

Wow! Impressive. I was doing camera repair when Samsung entered the marketplace with a point and shoot 35mm. Consumer Reports gave it a "Best Buy" or "Camera of the Year" rating. Something like that. It was a piece of crap. The circuit boards looked like everything was soldered by hand in someone's garage. Now about 20 years later Samsung is probably the world leader in electronics. Awfully big lens for that zoom range but it is fast.

I would agree with you, pounder. Their products looked pretty poor not long ago, but they have risen to the top in most catagories they compete in. And this camera looks pretty darn sweet. They already have several nice quality lenses to choose from.

Is their lens system "Proprietary"? In other words not compatible with systems like Nikon or Sony, etc. I'm happy with Canon but looking to upgrade to newer bodies. Switching to a new system is expensive when you have to buy new glass.

Some of their older lenses (went they collaborated with Pentax) worked with the Pentax K-Mount, but these new NX lenses are a proprietary Samsung system. Although there my be adaptors for Canon.

Question. Why does Germany host an event featuring nothing but products made in Japan, Korea, and China? Even Leica collaborated with Minolta in the late 70's on the CL. I believe even Hasselblad is made by Fuji of Japan these days. What a sorry world.

Why does the US host CES? Most of those products are designed and manufactured offshore. It's an unfortunate sign of the manufacturing times.
I believe the new Leica cameras have been manufactured by Fuji for many years already. You can purchase virtually the same Fuji's for much less than their Leica counterparts.

Good point. Maybe it's because we are the largest consumers of electronics. That might not be accurate but it should be very close. I tried to do a Google search but couldn't find the stats.

From, www.marketwatch.com

Our report thoroughly studies the global consumer electronics market. During our study, we observed that US, UK, China, Japan, India, Germany, South Korea and Taiwan are the biggest consumer electronics markets which together account for more than half of the global industry. We have also found that presently, China is dominating in many segments of the global consumer electronics industry and is expected to surpass US in total market by 2014.

Thank you, Steve for the heads up and the wiki article. I think I got Fujifilm mixed up with Panasonic. My mistake  But I do think Panasonic has a huge connection with Leica. Panasonic, minus the red dot.

PS, I never implied Leica was not a German company.
