I think what you may be talking about is a monitor that uses IPS technology. I've seen them (can't afford one), but viewing angle makes little or no difference. My head's been under a rock, so there may be a newer, better technology now.

That's what I am looking for. Sometimes in PP my wife will be looking at a different angle over my shoulder and to her view it is too light. I've tried to raise the screen up or change the angle but to no avail. I send all my printing to the same lab and it's got to be right. We all spend lots of money on bodies and lenses and sometimes forget what we need to look at. Thanks.

Great monitors... However, just because it CAN display that many colors, doesn't mean it WILL display that many colors.

Hi Mark, nice to see that you are still around! I hadn't seen anything from you for a long time. Like your new logo!...Ron

Thanks Ron. I've been around, but it has been a busy summer---with Germany winning the World Cup and all. Good luck with your new monitor purchase. The Dell UltraSharps are pretty dang good from my perspective. Cheers. -Mark

My 5 year old LG monitor has some short comings and it's time for a better monitor. I know that Dell has a new one out for @ $2500.00 but I'm not a professional lab. I'd like to keep it under $1000.00. I'll more than likely have to buy on line as I don't think that my local stores will have what I want/need. Thanks for any and all thoughts...Ron

Whatever you get, make sure it is an H-IPS or S-IPS - in other words, 30 bit capable. You should be able to get up to 27" in your price range.

You'll be pleased with any of the ASUS PA or PB series monitors. The PA-248Q has side USB 3.0 connectors for easy connection of devices as does the PB-279Q which has the added side card reader. I've has the PA-248Q and the PB278 monitors for a while and am very pleased with their performance and this new PB279Q model adds the side USB and reader functions I've come to depend on for external drive connection.
All of these monitors are solidly built and in my opinion, have the best stands in the business. With the added convenience of the side connection for USB and card reader, and the increase in color palet coverage on the new 279Q model, it sounds like a real winner. All carry 3 year overnight replacement guarantees.
You may need to upgrade your video card to one with at least 2 gig video RAM for best results.

Do not want to jump on the OP's original post, but what is the difference and advantages of a monitor versus HD Flatscreen? Thank You, Gary

What size screen did you want? Asus and Dell both have good prices on their 27 and 24 high def monitors that were top of the line before the new models came out a month or so ago. I got an ASUS PB278Q for under $500 because the new PB279Q took over the $999 price slot. Dell UltraSharp Premier Color monitors are 470 for 24 inch and about 850 for 27 inch for the H models with 1+billion colors and less for the HMs with 16 million colors.

1. Better coverage of the color pallet.
2. Better pixel density.
3. Connectivity..has handy USB connectors on side of monitor.
4. Monitor has ability to Fast Charge camera battery using USB connector.
5. Easier to calibrate
6. IPS displays give wider viewing angle

I'd go with Samsung. All my tvs/monitors are Samsung, went through the selection process a few years back.

You might want to look into an HDMI output card for your machine. You could then use your TV to view your video.

I honestly don't know what you need a "MINITOR" for, but Walmart recently had the ASUS PA-279Q monitor for $738.12 in their online store, but you might need to wait since they sold out faster than free hotdogs from Nathan's. Also another unfortunate fact would be they will charge you sales tax since there's Walmarts in every state of the union, but at that price, it's still a really good deal on a superb monitor.

Thanks Gene, I've only been at the digital side of photography for a little over 4 years as it took many years to give up film. The more I learn the more serious I get about it, just wish digital had been around when I was say 30, Ha Ha. My wife is also into this and my lab tells me to watch out as I may be creating a monster that won't let me use use my computer. Thanks for your advise and keep up your fine work... Ron

Sorry but did I miss something (MINITOR)? I do need a good quality monitor as I am really into PP with Photoshop and other add-on's . I do a lot of canvas large prints and also print most of all that I save. I don't under stand people that want to show you their pictures and they hand you their camera. I need to add a large room onto my house as I am running out of space to hang my prints.
