Strobist website has released their Lighting 101 course as a pdf file. They have graciously given their permission to share this as long as it isn't modified and they get the credit. I hope everyone that is interested looks at it and also feel free to look at their website. They have some very good info on lighting including DYI etc. They answer a lot of questions and sometimes create more. the site is

Its a really good site.. Their lighting102 is out and online now. It picks up where that left off and well worth the read. They are non-camera specific and really good at helping everyone improve their strobe/flash photos and lighting (Natural, reflector, flash and strobe.)

Also check out this link. It is the follow on with is Lighting 102 which goes further in depth into how to light your photos. 101 was the "Boot Camp". This covers it even deeper.

Strobist is one of the first sites I found when thinking of going off camera with my flash.

I'm going to download the pdf's and give them to my brother-in-law who is trying to learn his flash.

He's still writing part 2 every week or so. Also, he is doing it as a training class room.. its kind of neat. He has exercises to do and then you can send in questions on the blog and he answers them.. As I said, he is making it like a several year long training class and those that come in late can start at the beginning and catch up... It's a great read. on anther really good site.

Thanks so much for this link. I may have to do a few portraits at my nephew's wedding. No way do I EVER want to be a wedding photographer (God bless those who are and enjoy it), I'm more comfortable with wildlife and landscapes. This will come in handy.
