Not sure if this should go here or under a different topic. I may be taking a trip to Englewood Colorado the end of June. Might drive (from Minnesota) or fly. Wondering if anyone has any good photo suggestions for that area? Thanks

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is fabulous!

You are not too far from historic Leadville and Georgetown, two 1880s-era towns which are very photogenic, as is the narrow-gauge Georgetown Loop with a Shay engine.

Colorado Springs is just south of where you will be and is home to Garden of The Gods as Nikonian mentioned. Also Air Force Academy is a great shoot. Cave of The Winds would be a great place as well. Wish I were joining you.

Castlewood Canyon State Park is about half an hour away (south of Franktown). Beautiful canyon with water falls and dam ruins. Use the south entrance off Hwy 86 rather than the entrance off Hwy 83. There is also Cherry Creek State Park nearby with a lake, birds and other wildlife. Enjoy!

Hi!
I' live here in the mile high city of Denver. Englewood is basically a suburb of Denver.
everything is beautiful here in June!
snow has finally taken a backseat here in the city..
but is still very evident in the high country.
I personally find EVERYTHING here beautiful just waiting to be photographed!!
Flowers are blooming, trees are newly leafed, and grass is green!! babbling brooks provide non-stop music as well as photo ops..birds are singing.. and we have such cute squirrels! Denver has such a wonderful network of jogging/biking trails through manicured parks and green belts throughout the city.. all are adorned with such an array of flowering trees, summer bloomers..especially the lilacs which fill the air with the loveliest aroma..
architecture of every style abounds..looks as tho you are in a virtual fairy land of castles..modern- to neo classical.. we have some of everything for everyone!! She's come a long way from dusty cowtown to uptown lady!
so, here's my suggestion..
go to http://www.denver.org/
there you will find a myriad of info regarding EVERYTHING my lovely city has to offer to visitors /tourists. you can request a visitors guide,e-mail updates on things to do/see,
the world is at your fingertips..go for it!
armed of course with your trusty camera!!
ps..altitude may affect you the first couple of days..
acclimate, and keep drinking water.. the air is very drying!
sorry, i would offer my services to show you around.. but I will be in Florida at that time!
warmest hugs
Loui

It's been a while since we lived in Broomfield, near Boulder, but there are a ton of places in Colorado that are excellent for photos:
 On the drive from Denver to Central City, right next to a creek for part of the trip. Central City also used to be a treasure trove of locations but it's been a while and I think it is pretty heavy into gambling now. If you go, stop at the Toll Gate Saloon and get em to play Orange Blossom Special ... you may need to pay for it (goes to Jerry's Kids) but it is worth it!!
 Cripple Creek, west, southwest of Colorado Springs. Plus there used to be a road down the mountain called Gold Coast Rd. that was in some places a single lane washboard road but incredibly beautiful scenery. Warning: this road isn't for a quick trip back to Colorado Springs ... it takes a couple hours cuz it is a "rough road". Or used to be ...
 Estes Park, north of Denver / Boulder
 the Flatirons, between Denver and Boulder
 someone already mentioned RedRocks and Garden of the Gods
 Air Force Academy near the Springs
Enjoy ... I miss the place

Thats a tough choice. Flying will get you to Colorada faster, but you will miss every thing in between...like the Corn Palace in Iowa. In Colorado---SHOOT EVERY THING. Its a beautiful state.
As long as you are in the neighborhood, visit Bryce Canyon; its got to be the most beautiful place on Earth.
Write to their Chamber of Commerce for pamphlets and other "deals." Visit your local library for travel books.
Have fun. Shoot a pic for me. ALYN

Warning photography in Colorado will make everything else pale in comparison. There are photo ops everywhere. My by far favorite place to be.

Not to be a nit or a newt (gasp! ) but the Corn Palace is in Mitchell, South Dakota. Iowa has plenty of corn fields and I'm sure is a neat place, especially around Lake Okiboji (spelling?), but if someone drove around Iowa looking for the Corn Palace, they'd get lost. Used to date a girl from Mitchell back when dogs ran free ... actually the Corn Palace didn't strike me as any big deal, but then, I was more into fast cars and pretty wimmin. (Uh-uh ... Don't go there!!!!!)

Take a drive up Mount Evans, stop wherever you can pull over. Lots of good ops.

I'll add a pic or two in a minute - they pale in comparison to what I know now. I probably could have done better.

This was an Olympus 1.3 MP. All I had at the time.

You have had some good suggestions. Garden of the Gods in teh Springs is a photographer's dream - go early in the morning and again late afternoon/early evening.

I second the suggestion to drive the Mount Evans road. It is the highest paved road in the US. On most days,(but not all) you will find the Mountain Goats. There are also the Mountain sheep, but they are not nearly as photogenic.
The goat will allow you to shoot and I swear they pose for us. Just do not make any threatening moves and give the youngsters a wide berth so mom does not get concerned.
The Road opens when they can clear the snow and ice and closes the day after Labor Day.

Here is one form this past September.
