Hand coated silver gelatin dry plate (commercial emulsion)

Burke and James 4x5 Press
168mm Goerz Tenastigmat
4 sec exposure at ISO .5

This is the best coating I have done yet. Hopefully after I get that part down I can begin making my own silver gelatin emulsions.

You aren't one to do things the easy way, are you? Nice image. Do you teach these techniques of historical photography, or just punish yourself for fun?

Congratulations on your best endeavor with the coating and may you have continued improvement. I would love to get into that type of photography but age being a factor I will just enjoy the work of others like yourself. Nice photo by the way.

Thanks. No, I am just an undergrad art student. I wouldn't call it punishment. The easy way, depending on what you mean, isn't at fun or interesting.

I've always been fascinated by large format photography like this ... never had the time or money to indulge unfortunately.

This is a delightful nostalgic shot ... would love to see more of your work as you progress.

Thanks for sharing!

Tom
