I've been hanging around awhile and even posted some comments and photos. But now I have an issue that disappoints me, and I suppose its a sign of creeping dinosaurism. I have a Nikkor "s" lens (circa 1964) 58mm f:1.4 that I dearly love. But when I put it on my d5000, the camera tells me I have no lens attached. Does Toby Keith not appreciate Patsy Cline?? Is it hopeless?? Can I override anything to make the body accept the lens? I hope someone can help me.

you can use it but set your camera to manual. also you won't get metering or focus assist and of course no auto focus. the s lens is too early to have a chip in it to tell the camera what it is. however those old nikon manual focus lenses in an all metal casing with the multi colored dof scale on the barrel are by far the best looking camera lenses ever made. by the way love your toby keith and patsy cline references. two of my favorites. did you know that a young songwriter named willie nelson wrote "crazy" for her. what a voice she had.

I'm afraid the era has come to an end, Willie Nelson is about the last of the breed. I also felt incredibly stupid last night. I posted and went to bed, and then realized the "F" predated electronics, so shoot on manual, stupid. But I always appreciate your posts. You, Captain C, Nikonian, and NikonShooter, along with a few others, are always on target.

Be very careful here. Although those old lenses can fit, they can also damage the newer mount. Before you mount that lens again, go here: http://www.aiconversions.com/

Captain: Thanks for the link. I lucked out, because after my epiphany I got out of bed to try the lens. It works on manual, only, and the chart confirms it. I was holding my breath for a minute
