HCSD Help

I have been shooting with a Canon Powershot A430 4.0 MP, at highest setting and with a 1 gig sd card. Can I use the newer HCSD cards with this camera and how do I tell the speed at which I can use, if so. I was told I could not use a HCSD card in a camera that I had bought originally with only SD., from a walmart rep at the camera counter. This is basicly a point a shot camera but i recently found out it has all sorts of settings depending on the mode you have it in. Sorry I just don't have a pic of the back of camera to show you what other modes other than a preview or auto mode but some have automode and a M, another has just SCN, lastly a movie mode which I have use one or twice with good results and sound. And help in this would be greatly appreceiated from my fellow UHH users.

Page 98 of the manual:
Recording Media SD memory card/MultiMediaCard
This camera has been tested with memory cards up to 2 GB.

I did read that the video will auto-stop recording at one hour regardless of how much available space is on the SD card.

Not all high speed memory cards are compatable with older digital cameras regardless of their memory size. Size and speed are two different issues. higher speed mempry cards are usefull for downloading and uplaoding larger files, usually much larger than 4mp jpgs.
Standard class 2 or 4 memory cards should do very well in your camera, IMO.
The reference to video usually referrs to a safety precaution to heat buildup in the camera. Most DSLR cameras will stop recording video before heat build up ruins the circuitry.
