Anyone using the canon 28-300 zoom lens, thinking of getting one as a walk around lens. Like to know about the focusing and the image quality. Will be using it on a canon 6D camera. Thanks.

Yes, I have it and like it a lot for its image quality - focusing is spot on too. I'm sure you've checked it out and you'll be aware of its weight so not sure how far you'll be walking with it. All in all it is a great all rounder but it is heavy.

Ever consider the Tamron 16-300? A wider angle and 19 ozs vs 58 ozs. Of course look at reviews and ask UHH members that have been able to compare these two lenses what they think. I have the 18-270 and use it most of the time.

Thanks for your quick response. I have read up on it and know about the weight as I do workout and I use a rapid strap which does help with the weight. Mainly interested in real work use. I dislike soft focused images unless it's intended. Plus it would be much lighter and simpler than carriying around the 24-105, 70-300 and accessories.

No I haven't looked at third party lenses, looking for a full frame format lens. I'd be open to third party as long as image quality is comparable to the canon.

It's a great lens. The one lens I take when I travel. I use it on my 5d mark lll. The IQ is really good throughout the range and is easily refined in editing. Highly recommended.

I have had the 28-300 for over 2 years and would highly recommend it. I got it to use with my Canon 7D. Recently I acquired a 6D and it does even better on the full frame. My age is mid 70s and the lens weight does not bother me.

Thanks Rob, the thing I don't like is thatnits a push pull zoom. No problems with dust due to that fact?

I actually like the push/pull feature. It took a while to get used to it, but it is really quick for action sports.

Would someone kindly say more about the Tamron 16-300 lens. I recently bought the Canon T5i. I used a Tamron lens with my "old" camera and loved its versatility. I am really curious about autofocus noise when shooting movies. The Canon STM lenses are supposed to be practically noiseless. My Tamron lens produces quite a bit of noise that can be heard when shooting movies. What say you?

I think you'd be best off starting a new thread otherwise no-one is going to see your question. The OP asked a question about a Canon lens so unless you start anew very few people will see your query.

This lens wouldn't work for me as I have a full frame camera. The canon 6D.

I had the lens for over a year. It worked on both my full frame and crop sensor Canons. The quality was impeccable, however, the weight was a problem for even this burly body. Caused neck issues after awhile. Outside of the weight, the lens is well worth it.
