I went to the Red Bull Air Races at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend and what a hoot! If you have never heard of it, it is a 3 dimensional road course in the air. It is a blast to watch and certainly a very challenging course for a pilot.....
Kirby Chambliss up close and personal
Nigel Lamb in slow flight
Kirby flying through the chicane
Close up of one of the racers
Pete McLeod flying past Big Hoss
Ivanoff through the chicane with Hall on deck at the newly created runway in the center of Texas Motor Speedway.
Michael Goulian waiting to take off on the newly created TMS infield runway
Goulian going around a pylon
Peter Besenyei om short final. Note how close they come to the condo's on the edge of the field!

Thanks Bigwolf40, it is a very fast paced and exciting race so the high speed action shots can be tough to get.
Ya must of had fun partner. Gives us some specs on your shooting. What lens did you use? ISO, amperature and shutter speed. Nice shooting. How long was this event? Been to air show shooting the navy's Blue Angles. It is fun shooting planes in flight.

I had two cameras there but mostly used the D610 with my Tamron 70-200 2.8 lens on it. I shot at ISO 200, aperture priority at typically f11 to f14 which gave me a shutter speed around 1/200 of a second. I wanted some blur on the props but felt I needed some depth of field as well. Those guys move fast!

Wow! Never heard of this!!

My sister has a condo in that building on the second turn. She attended the event because it has been in Europe but not in the US. I haven't talked to her about this, but I bet it was fun.

I have been to a few of these races and they are pretty amazing. I am really shocked the FAA signed off in letting them fly so close to the condos. I racer was DQ'ed for getting too close....
Nice pics! I've seen these races on TV and they are amazing! Saw one race where the pilot got too low and dipped a wing tip in the lake! During his correction, he dipped the other... But he somehow recovered and continued flying. Truly lucky! Probably had to change his shorts after landing, though.
