I think I'm going to like the NEX-7 as a stacking rig camera. Finally got all the bits and pieces I needed to shoot a stack. This photo is a about 190 image stack of a carpenter ant eye. Manual camera movement with Zeiss fine focus block. It has enough resolution that I can do 50x hand cranked. I like the StackShot but hand cranking, while tedious introduces much less vibration in my rig. Shooting specifics - NEX-7, bellows with Nikon finite ELWD 20X .40 objective, 1/160, ISO100, 600RT-EX flash 1/8 power with DIY concave diffuser. Compositional crop and some minor cleanup in post.
Illumination needs some work but is in the ballpark. Resolution and detail from the higher density APC Sensor is better than what I could do with my FF Sensor. In fairness I need to rerun the stack with the Zeiss fine focus block and see if that improves the final image.
Wow! William, just Wow!!! Very impressive
aiiasing from light is a bummer but crisp and motion free.
great shot
William, I'm surprised Douglass didn't yell at you for posting a non macro image :-o  :-)

you have to let people like A-PeeR step out of the box occasionally to keep them sharp.
William, that is outstanding!
Simply amazing! I'm wondering if the StackShot is not the answer for me. Sounds like it creates vibration? Can you include a shutter delay, to allow the rig to settle?
your link has me drooling all over my desk. Thank goodness i don't have any extra cash.

yes various delays on move, shutter cock, settle time, next move.

Thanks. Unfortunately it's not in my budget. I'm trying to afford to retire in 4-5 years. LOL.
Silly question, any reason you went with 20x instead of 10x. I would think you limit your subjects with the higher magnification, from say the face of an insect to body parts. Is this also on the end of a 200mm lens/tubes or is this set up different. Unbelievable how much shadow in such a small subject, but so much Detail. I'm guessing side light gives depth/detail and straight on light would flatten. What a challenge.. Can't wait to see it all fine tuned, Very Impressive.
