Almost all the grasshoppers that are out right now look like these pretty ugly I think.

Not to me! I think they are a thing of beauty. I wish I had some hoppers today.

Your 'hopper is a wingless nymph. In a molt or two, she/he will have wings, and be ready to mate.

Your flowers are well captured. Don't hesitate to crop away excess background, which will emphasize your subjects.

Notice that not all of your leaf-hopper is in focus. When shooting a longish insect, try keeping insect parallel to lens front element, and within your narrow DOF.

If in focus, you could crop tighter.
