I have been reading this site for several months and it has really helped me with my photography. I will be going to Yosemite National Park in California for vacation in June. I have a Canon XSI and the following lens:canon ESF 15-85MM, Canon EFS 55-250 mm, Canon 50 mm, and canon 100mm Macro. I was thinking about buying the 70-300 mm. Do you think I need it? Which of my lens should I plan to carry? Your advice is appreciated

I don't know any particulars on Canon, but looking at the focal lengths you have, the 70-300 and the 55-250 duplicate a large part of that range. Unless it is a step up (faster, better glass) you are only gaining 50mm. If you need the extra reach (all other things being equal on those two zooms) - you may want to look at a 300mm prime.

I would take both zooms. If I also had the 300mm prime, i'd put that in the bag, as well. I could probably live without the 50mm and the Macro, but you know what you like to shoot and what focal lengths you use most.

If you can, go with the 300 2.8. It's my main lens next to my 70-200 2.8. And with a doubler ... what a reach.

If not stick with the 55-250.

You're not gaining much buying the lens you mentioned.
Yosemite National Park is a grand place.
I have not been to this park, yet.
Most of the images I have seen, appear to be wide angle trying to capture the grandness of this place.
I would take all of lenses as I see a good use for each.
Hope you have a good bag to carry all of it. If not, buy a camera bag.
Maybe, you will get more opinions here shortly.
Hope this helps!
Looking forward to seeing your images when you get back!!
Pat

What Pat said, Be careful if you have to leave your lenses in the car as far as heat goes. It will weight you down carrying all that gear if you hike any where.
I went to Oregon last spring. I got the 28-300 to take along. It was on the camera 80% of the time. I did carry the 17-55 for a wider lens. The other lenses I took pretty much stayed at the in-laws house. Made hiking a good thing.

If your just wanting to take landscape pics, then I would lean more to the 18-55. if you want to take wildlife you will want the 250. If you really want good wildlife (unless there right next to you) you will want a 600 or bigger. Not sure if the macro or 50mm would really be useful, but they might be if you want a pic of flower or something like that. A 300 compared to the 250 is not that big of difference. I would recommend a 2x but the efs wont work with them (as far as I know, you need to have EF lenses to work with them). So if you want just landscapes, the 18-55 or even the 250 would be good. I would take those two and leave the other behind. Spend the money you would on the 300 and have a few drinks or dinners and just enjoy the trip!

Depends on what you shoot most...animals or landscapes ? I go with two cameras equipped for anything that comes along .

I would invest in a camera vest instead of a bag, I wear mine hiking all the time and take all my lenses without having to use a shoulder bag to weigh me down and you would have both hands free. Believe me it really helps ask those who have one..

Thank you all for your advice. I will not invest in the 70 - 300mm

I'd suggest adding the Canon 100-400 Is lens. You will have plenty of situations in Yosemite to use it and will be happy that you had the extra magnification of this lens and its excellent optical quality. Its equivalent to a 640mm lens on a full frame camera which on your camera will provide almost 13X magnification.

GO WIDE! I would recommend a wider lens. Like maybe a an 8mm like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LTXQUE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
