Good shot. Like the detail on download. Starting to see more spiders on webs since temps are cooling down.

Nice shot. I am hoping someone can identify it and explain what looks like pores on her back. My understanding is that spiders only have 2 spiracles but I have limited knowledge and often there are exceptions to the rules.

Darn it, Brenda, I was almost out of this thread when I read your comment about spiracles. I learned from you that caterpillars, at least Monarch caterpillars, have them but from now on I will be looking to see if spiders have them too. So little time and so much learning to do.

That is a great photo. If you keep this up soon you will be buying a macro lens, diffuser, camera grip etc. if you don't already have this stuff. I like the composition as well.

On second thoughts I expect the marks on this spider are only marks not pores but this is all new to me. I think spiders only have 2 and I don't expect we would be able to see them with our lenses. Lots of insects have spiracles even worms.

Yes the OP here has produced a good photo of his spider. I think it might be a Wolf like the one I saw yesterday.

OMG. Now I will be looking at worms for spiracles too. I will be fishing in the Colorado mountains in a couple of weeks and if I use live bait I will be checking each worm for spiracles before I attach it to my hook. Do fish have spiracles too?

If I MUST know, what are the spiracles for? Are they sweat glands?

I hope you recognize my joshing back. Now I will get off because I don't want to further hijack this thread.

Thank you for the nice comments, Dennis. Actually, I did use a diffuser for this shot. It was taken with my Nikkor 18-300mm.

Thank you. I believe you are correct in the identification. My son (as close as anyone comes to being an entomologist in our family) identified one in the back yard earlier this summer. That one had an egg sac attached to her spinneret. This may be one of the offspring.
