Help Identify this bird.
I believe it is a hawk but not sure what kind. Is it a young red tail?

It is hard to tell from the photos but you can look it up in the library bird books.

Here is another picture of the hawk.
Could it be a red shoulder hawk?

We have a LOT of Red Tail's around here but I rarely see them that close! The "screech" they emit is a give-away I think. We have a place on Jack's Mt where the Hawk watchers etc. sit with their binoculars each day, It's fascinating! Good picture. tattoolady

Hawks are so hard to identify. In my raptor book the picture that best represents this bird is a juvenile Krider's Red Tailed Hawk. I believe they are in the south east. Of course, I may be wrong

I think I would have to go with Red-shouldered Hawk. The dark wide bands on the tail look more like a Red-shouldered. The dark bands on a juvenile Red-tailed are much narrowed Hawks do vary and it makes them difficult to ID>
