So my wife finally agreed that I could retire. Unfortunately the price was that we leave Alaska and move closer to our only grandchild. Since his parents insist on raising him in Kennesaw, GA that meant a move about as far away from Anchorage as one can get and still be in the US. We bought a home in Ellijay, GA in the "Georgia mountains" ...not quite the same as the Chugach range we are leaving behind.
On the plus side, there are a whole lot of new birds for me to focus on. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is the only hummingbird that breeds in the area (several others are suppose to visit in the winter). So far, while I seem to be able to attract a fair number of them to pose for me, all are female (without the ruby-throat) or juveniles.
Welcome to the lower 48! Nice photos, too!
Best of luck in your new home and new state!
All your shots are wonderful!!
Enjoyed them all!!

Very nice detailed photo's, hopefully you'll enjoy the warmer weather in GA.

Thank you Angela, we hope it will be our last move. Twelve moves in forty-five years of marriage is enough ...she thinks.

Thank you Angler. One plus side to the house is the lake right down the hill. Fishing will be more spontaneous I suspect. And it will be the perfect place to teach my grandson how to cast a fly!

Thank you for the kind comment ...as for enjoying the warmer weather, I am not sure about that, yet at any rate.

Actually, any time you like ...but I will insist on return rights. I want pictures of your Robins and Blue Tits and any thing else I can find. I never had a camera with me when I traveled on business and now regret it. I spent way too much time in GB and have not a shot to show for it. Enjoy your evening ...Bear

Very good shots Erbiv.
Thank you ebbote. Challenging little creatures, so fast.
Really excellent closeup shots of this hummer, and yes, you can expect several different species during migration and in the winter months. Just leave your hummer feeders out year round, and the more the better. :-)

Thank you Dixiegirl for the comment and information. We have little variety in Anchorage during the winter. I am hoping for more here, but a lot to learn. We had a Summer Tanager this morning, a beautiful male, but I was too slow with the camera.
