This image was originally in color and made with a modern digital camera. However, when I converted it into black and white, it brought back a flood of memories of a time when film was the only game in town, and I would go forth with my camera on a sunny day armed with a collection of color filters to control the tones in my images. I always carried at least four filters, light yellow, medium yellow, medium green and light red. All were Kodak Wratten filters, the finest available. Had the above image been made back then, I would have used a light red, Wratten A25 filter.

Stunning! I really like how the break in the clouds lights up the trees on the right. I can see how your experience with filters for BW work has served you well in the digital BW conversion process.

Thank you so much for your kind comment. I do miss the old days, when, in the blush of youth, even choosing a color filter was exciting.

Thanks for your comment. No, I did not meter off the sky. The purpose of the original shot was to bring out the clouds without clipping. Everything else was subordinated to that. Some clipping has occurred in the brightest portions of the clouds, but some sacrifices have to be made. The original shot was made with my daughter's little Kodak C663, which she had purchased a couple of months before. I was trying to show her how to get the best results under various conditions. The C663 has a spot metering feature which makes selective metering fairly easy.

Brings back my memories too when I had a bag of filters like
UV, ghostless, polarizing, reds, greens (for grass), etc., etc., etc ...

Really a beautiful photo; too bad you didn't upload so it could be downloaded as a larger image ???

Thanks for the comment. The shot looks better in B/W than in the original color version.

Thanks for the comment. Very little PP except converting to B?W and adding the border.
