The MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display has a screen resolution of 2560x1600. The Lenovo T540 has a 15" screen with a resolution of 2880x1800. Is there some design feature in the Retina display that makes the display better at roughly the same resolution? And what about IPS--does it make a difference?

Thanks.

IPS is a key feature for monitors.

IPS does make a difference. I recently got the Acer Aspire R7 laptop that has an IPS screen. You get a much wider viewing angle with an IPS screen and more accurate colors. The perceived screen brightness changes very little with your viewing angle.
