Our 2014/15 High School Football Season - First Game

Our local High School Football Season began Friday Night,
August 29th.

It was a very good game with our Guys winning 36 to 7.

One of the kids Number 7, I know very well played an Awesome Game from his Defensive End Position, Very Proud of Him.

I don't recall the number of tackles He made. I know he had one sack that was in the end zone and should have been a safety. However the Ref., gave him a bad spot and placed the ball on the six inch line...duh.

It rained just prior to the game. We had daylight thru about mid way second quarter then sunset, darkness. Humidity was terrible it was around 90 degrees, humidity about 80%, very tough trying to keep lens dry, between that and the changing light, and my limited experience it was a challenge.

Used Nikon D-600, Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 lens, aperture mode, iso from around 200 in daylight to around 2000 after sun was down and the few lights that were on, Pre-Set White Balance which was set several times as lighting conditions slipped along.

Nice shots. The last one is my favorite. It looks like the player on the right is going to get hammered and he hasn't a clue as to what is in his future.

Thanks Dennis,

I was satisfied with most of the composition of the shots, especially on the football field with all the action. On the one I wish I had kept the shutter engaged to catch the slam sack on that third shot.

I am still not happy with the sharpness and white balance of my photo's.

In the terrible lighting of High School Football Fields, I have to keep the aperture at f2.8 and iso pumped up to around 1600 most of the time. I think the Nikon 70-200mm lens is sharper around f4 or so. (Something I am not doing right, don't understand or have the experience and eye to correct, will keep working on it, next game is this Friday night)

Not to make a lot of excuses, We had a heavy rain, the field and sidelines were soaked at time I was standing in 6 inches of water in the field drainage area at times. Heat & Humidity was high, I forgot my lens cleaning gear and only had a hanky and it got damp, so I was having a devil of a time keeping the moisture off the front of the lens. Once dampness was on the lens with the lights everything appeared milky like.

Thanks for looking and comments.

Hope you have an awesome day.
