Well, am I getting there?

I finally got out to shoot again. I found these three and got some images of them before the mosquitos chased me off. The lady bug may not have been pleased with me for interrupting what appears to be dinner. The little fly kept running to the other side of the stem, camera shy I guess. The other guy didn't seem the least bit bothered by my presence.

Exif of image #1:
Camera Model: Canon EOS 40D
Lens: EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Image Date: 2014-09-01
Focal Length: 100.0mm
Aperture: f/11.0
Exposure Time: 0.0080 s (1/125-sec)
ISO equiv: 100
Exposure Bias: none
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: Manual
Exposure Mode: Manual
White Balance: Manual
Flash Fired: Yes

My only capture suggestion: increase your ISO to 200, so you can decrease your aperture to f/16, which will deepen your DoF.
You can also decrease your shutter duration to 1/200-sec to better eliminate camera movement.

Thanks Nikonian, would this help with my movement and breezes on the plant stalks as well?

Absolutely! The shorter the shutter duration, the less ambient light strikes the sensor. 1/250-sec is the shortest shutter duration that syncs with speedlight illumination, per: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/eos_slr_camera_systems/eos_digital_slr_cameras/eos_40d#Specifications

Be careful with ISO 200 on a 40D you may end up with significant noise grain. I'd work on my flash and diffusion to get more light on the subject. That's just me though, I'd rather give up a little DoF then have excessive grain. What speed light and diffuser are you using?

I am using a 430 EX II speedlite with an Aurora Microbox MBS. It is approximately 6" x 8".

Two comments about this type of softbox:
1.) Look INSIDE diffuser to find a white cloth strip that may be Velcro'd to one side. If found, stretch ACROSS to other side to a second Velcro button. This internal diffuser will further even your illumination pattern.
2.) Many of us have corrected our "collapsing" softboxes with short, stiff rods: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-184699-1.html & http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-32754-6.html#3842241
