This I Believe, #13

This I DON'T Believe!:

"For God so loved the World that He gave His only Son, so that only nice people would not perish, but would have eternal life."

I have often wondered what "gave his only son" means to God. Jesus resurrected after three days, then returned to heaven. Three days would seem like a short time to God, who is timeless.

Maybe the scripture writer meant that God loaned his only son to the world ...

Then there is the whole thing about "only son," when that very son professed that "we are all sons of God." What's an only son then?

Only mention of "Sons of God": Genesis 6: "Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose."

Now, stop your bleating; God knows what you are doing - and it isn't a game. Thousands around the world die daily for believing in Him. Try http://www.persecution.com/

Luke 5:31-32 New American Standard Bible

31 And Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Read the Book of John and the concept of God's Son might clear up for you.

I believe that what he's asking for is some ideas from our posters about their concept of "God's Son". In this case, the term, "look it up" is not proper. What did YOU learn in school on this subject...not just "learn from reading John".
He's asking for 'commentaries'...civil discussion, sharing ideas...give it a try...hell, it just might be contagious and catch on...sure would beat that Bangee Google crap.

I could cut and paste the whole Book of John, but if he's really interested in the subject, that's the place to go. The other three Gospels are called the Synoptic Gospels in the sense that they concentrate on a chronological sequence of Christ's life. John, however, is a theological treatise meant to present Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, even from the the outset: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Talk about the greatest treatise statement of all time!! Once John makes his treatise statement, he then lays out the arguments and proofs for his statement. You've gotta read the book!!

Thanks for another educated copout. I guess you scholars call that 'being a disciple of Christ'.
Really revealing.

Well its just a little hard to communicate things on the internet, that just need to be read to understand. I just got through with a 6 hour DVD, a treatise on Gods grace (Calvinism).

I would not attempt!, to communicate that to you here either. But like SteveR told you to read the book of John, I can tell you where to buy the DVD. :) Not that you would get anything out of it, but it never hurts to try.

I believe you need a better translation, this must have come from the "Cotton Patch Bible".

KJV John 3:

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Note your quote, does not say Begotten Son. That makes a huge difference!, in the verses meaning.
