Although I take pictures of my family, it is easier to photograph my golden retriever for the most natural shots. How am I doing?

Still a bit over my head with the D300, but do want to learn.

Very nice pup. Looks like you might be focusing on his nose. Go for the eyes. But all in all great shots.

Nice pup.

Shot #1 and #2 are ok...but they are a bit flat.

#3 is a great shot...why?

It's got great lighting.

Great lighting can take a ho hum shot and make it sparkle.

Do you have an external flash? If so...take a look at the strobist site; It's dedicated to getting great light without a lot of expense. Check out the "lighting 101"

Golden Retrievers seem very well behaved. I've got a 29 month old grandson with energy you wouldn't believe in the midst of the terrible twos. Not as easy to photograph!!

My buddy is 9 years old and named Eli. Although I am a Giants fan, he was named after Eli Whitney by my then 5 year daughter a couple years before Mr. Manning was drafted.

Thanks for a great picture of Buddy!

I think you did a very good job on all of the shots. How can you go wrong with such a good subject?
