After renting the tamron 24-70 2.8 with their version of image stabilization, I am in the market for one. It seems that 42st photo has the best price but can't tell if it is a grey market copy. I will check this out but wondered what others have to say about this company.

Check out B&H as well. If you live chat with their customer service, you may get them to price match if it isn't gray market and B&H offers free expedited shipping on purchases over $50.00.

42st photo typically sells grey market.

I thought as much but will contact them for the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for weighing in.

Check out the prices on e-bay sometimes you can find a good deal and they protect the buyer.

Been looking there and other places for used equipment until I discovered that Tamron warranties are not transferable to a new owner. Thanks for taking the time to respond

All I can add is to be very careful with 42nd st. There is a reason that B&H and Adorama, both superior vendors, are higher than that price. You will be happy with either of them, and maybe not so of the other!

There's a 42nd St and a 47th St and one of them is a classic bait and switch house and the other one is trying to appear legitimate but I can't remember which is which. I think that 42nd is the newer one that is trying to be good, well, as good as merchants in NY know how to be. I bet they'd tell you if it's grey market if they're striving to become competition with B&H and Adorama. If they don't answer you immediately but rather start talking about upgrading to Sigma or something instead, hang up or there's liable to be three truck loads of new stuff on the way out 285 towards Kenosha Pass.

Nothing REALLY wrong with grey market items, as long as you know what you are getting up front and consider the discount worth the loss of warranty. I see some people talk about these items as though they are somehow inferior, when in fact, they are the same products from the same factories, just meant for different markets.

They don't qualify for mfr's warranty, but you maybe able to get third party warranty from Square Trade...only you can decide whether or not the risk is worth it or if you want to pay for the additional warranty.

Could not agree more. There is so much misinformation put out by the people who are ignorant about marketing strategies.

I believe that 42nd. Street is grey as grey can be. Ask them about the product guarantees and see what kind of an answer you get......
